This month at Klondike Academy, all the tiny tots are learning about outer space. We’re talking spaceships, stars, planets, the sun, the moon, shooting stars, meteors, and more! In honor of this theme, we’ve got a great family-fun project for you: Galaxy Playdough!

Most of the ingredients for this project can be found in your home (we all know you’ve got some glitter stashed away somewhere), and what you don’t have can be picked up at your local grocery or craft store.

GALAXY PLAYDOUGH

What you’ll need:

  • 2 cups of plain flour
  • 2 cups of water
  • black and blue food coloring (you’ll need a lot of black for the deep colors)
  • 1 Tbsp. cooking oil
  • 1 Tbsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 cup of salt
  • Lots and Lots of glitter

How you’ll make it:
You’ll want to begin by mixing together the liquids (water, dye, cooking oil) in a large pan. Then, mix dry ingredients (flour, cream of tartar, salt, and glitter) together in a bowl. Bring the liquid to a boil, then reduce heat to medium. While stirring, add dry ingredients to heated water. Stir until dough forms. Remove from heat, let cool slightly, and knead to bring dough to proper consistency. This Galaxy Dough can be stored in an air-tight plastic container for up to one week.

Now, GO PLAY!
